From Classroom to Certification

The rigger certification class with practical is our most complete rigging option. Days one and two combine classroom instruction with hands-on practice. Day three is set aside for the practical exam, so you finish the course having tested your skills, not just studied them.

Who Should Take It

Pick this one if you want a rigging credential that follows you from employer to employer, issued by an independent body instead of a single company. A growing number of general contractors and site owners write NCCCO rigger cards into their job requirements. You learn from people who hold NCCCO rigger certification themselves, including staff accredited to examine rigging practicals. The card itself is issued by NCCCO; our part is the preparation.

What You'll Work On

  • Estimating weight, finding the center of gravity and laying out a rigging plan
  • Hardware inspection and selection
  • Hitches, sling angles and capacity reductions
  • Tag lines, load control and communication
  • Practical exam tasks and what examiners look for

The difference between Level I and Level II is explained on our rigging program overview.

Preparing for Exam Day

The practical exam rewards calm, methodical work. Examiners want to see you inspect hardware before using it, choose an appropriate hitch, rig for a balanced lift and control the load with tag lines. The first two days include practice on these tasks so the exam format holds no surprises. There is a written component as well, and NCCCO sets a time limit for passing both pieces, so check with the office about where the written test lands on your calendar. Seffner hosts a written test date monthly.

How to Enroll

Reserve and pay in one step with the online checkout here, or choose the three-day rigger class on the request form and someone from the office will reach out to hold your spot and take payment. On day one, arrive in work clothes and hard-toe boots with gloves, a hard hat and government photo ID.
