Just the Practical

The signal person practical exam option is for experienced signal persons who already know the material and only need to complete the hands-on test. There is no classroom time. You demonstrate your signaling skills directly to the examiner.

When It Takes Place

The practical is held on the third day of our signal person certification class. Arrive ready to test that day. If you need classroom review first, the Signal Person Only Certification (with Practical) is the better choice.

Prerequisites

This option is meant for people with real signaling experience. Know the standard hand signals and voice procedures thoroughly before you arrive. Bring hard-toe footwear, a hard hat, gloves and a government-issued photo ID. More background is on the signalperson program page.

What Examiners Look For

Expect to show clear, correctly formed hand signals, consistent voice communication if radios are used, and good positioning so you can see both the operator and the load. Examiners also watch how you handle stops and changes. Practice in front of someone who knows the signal chart before you arrive, since small differences in a signal can change its meaning. For tips, see our post on signal person certification.

Pricing and Booking

Pricing for the practical-only option is not published online, so it can't be paid through the website. Call the office or submit the enrollment request form on this page and we will quote it, then confirm your exam date and payment.
